Getting a dive license means you can dive all over the world without an instructor for as long as you physically fit enough. You and your dive buddy partner can explore the underwater world all by yourselves and make it your own. Doing your course in Cairns means you get to dive on the best reef in the world, and you get the highest possible quality instruction, so your license will mean something.
Students in the Pro Dive training pool.
All courses are basically the same for the first 2 days; do your dive medical first up, then doing classroom theory in the morning followed by pool training in the afternoon or vise versa. It is from the 3rd day on that the trips differ.
First 2 days as per above, then on the 3rd day you get on a day trip boat for your 2 training dives. The boat comes back to Cairns that afternoon and you sleep at your backpackers. You do the same the next day. Only 4 dives altogether.
First 2 days as per above, then on the 3rd day you go out on a boat and do your 2 training dives. The boat stays overnight on the reef, and you sleep on the boat. The next day you wake up and do your 2 training dives, followed usually by a 3rd fun dive (you are now a certified diver!) . Boat comes back to Cairns in the afternoon.
First 3 days as per above 4 day live- aboard course. On the 4th day you generally do 2 fun dives (including 1 x night dive) after completing your 2 training dives. On the 5th day you do 3 more fun dives and boat comes back to Cairns in the afternoon.
If your time and money allows we recommend doing the 5 day live- aboard course as you get 5 fun dives as well as your training dives and it allows you to get some confidence and experience diving without an instructor. Although they may seem a little expensive, they do include meals and accommodation. If you really are on a tight budget then go for the 4 day budget course. There doesn’t seem to be to much point in going for the 4 day live-aboard course as you only get 1 extra dive out of it and they are still quite expensive compared to the budget course. 4 day budget course 4 day liveaboard course 5 day liveaboard course
